FILM REVIEW: The Hedgehog

PALOMA Josse (Garance Le Guillermic) is 11 years old and already bored with life.

So much so, she is planning to commit suicide on her 12th birthday and thereby end her suffering.

In the weeks leading up to the big day, Paloma decides to make a film about the absurdities in her life that have scarred her since birth.

In the process, she meets her enigmatic new neighbour, Kakuro Ozu (Togo Igawa).

He is fascinated by the building’s grumpy concierge, Renee Michel (Josiane Balasco), a widow who lives alone with her cat.

Kakuro enlists Paloma’s help to bring Renee out of her shell.

Through this newfound friendship, Paloma begins to see glimmers of light in the darkness and she questions whether the future is really as gloomy as she thought in this gentle drama based on the novel L’Elegance Du Herisson by Muriel Barbery.
