FILM: Scarecrow (18)

A re-release of Jerry Schatzberg’s road movie to coincide with the film’s 40th anniversary.

After months at sea, sailor Francis Lionel Delbuchi (Al Pacino) hits the road bound for Detroit, where he will be reunited with his wife Annie (Penelope Allen) and the child he has never seen.

En route, he meets ex-con Max Millan (Gene Hackman), who is bound for Pittsburgh in search of a brighter future.

Max listens to Francis’s story and persuades the former seaman to use all of the money he saved to finance a car wash business in which they will be joint partners.

The two men head for Pittsburgh to realise this modest dream but their plans turn sour in Denver, home to Max’s sister Coley (Dorothy Tristan).
