Last chance to finish West Sussex Summer Reading Challenge

WEST Sussex libraries are urging children to finish their Summer Reading Challenge before it closes.

So far, more than 10,000 youngsters have signed-up to the contest – created to encourage four to 11 year olds to read books during the summer break.

The scheme, which closes on September 8, looks for pre-teens to read six books of their choice for a chance to win a medal.

Children can complete the challenge only by unravelling its plot – with clues collected after finishing each book.

This year it is based around the Story Lab: a high-tech space station containing millions of novels which has crashed to earth.

Lionel Barnard, West Sussex County Council deputy leader, said: “It is pleasing to see so many young people already signed up to take on the challenge.

“Last year nearly 6,000 young readers took part and we are hoping to surpass that number this time.

“It doesn’t close until September 8 so there is still plenty of time to get reading for a chance to receive a prize.”
