REVIEW: The Bersted Boys, North Bersted

A standing ovation from an audience of over 160 people was the perfect end to a dazzling evening of song.

Bersted Arts presented ‘One Night Only’ at the Bersted Park Community Centre to a sell-out audience, with the main hall transformed into a glitzy cabaret venue with much style and panache.

Headlined by the ‘Bersted Boys’ - James Etheridge, Michael Gattrell and Will Hackett - under the musical direction of Brett Wellcome on keys and the talented Aaron White on percussion; the programme took them through over 30 songs including a Disney set, West End showstoppers, and some contemporary and retro rock and pop, including a tribute to Whitney Houston, ABBA and Kings of Leon.

Special guests included the 40 strong Bersted Community Choir, under the expert direction of choir leader Sue White. For a choir that was only formed last year, their contribution of songs, which included ‘Lean On Me’, ‘Love Train’ and ‘When You Believe’ was simply beautiful, and sung with impressive strength and feeling.

Bersted Arts are a local company who offer a broad range of creative and imaginative events aimed at engaging and inspiring the local community.

At less than two-years-old, the company have already been recognised locally for their contribution to the arts in the area. This slick evening of West End quality performances was yet another notable landmark in their already impressive diary.

If you get the chance to see them perform in the future, make sure you don’t miss out!
