REVIEW: Dave Gorman at the Theatre Royal, Brighton

IF the sign of a good night out is not wanting it to end, then Dave Gorman’s show at the Theatre Royal last night (Sunday, October 30) was fantastic.

I was absolutely gutted when it was time for the funny man to finish his Powerpoint Presentation at the Brighton venue, and could easily have listened to another hour of his clever wit.

The night takes the format of a slide show, with Dave using the giant projector screen to show the audience examples of hilarity he has found on the internet.

As a self-confessed lover of all things world wide web, he takes what is often a rather innocuous-looking advert or story, and exploits it for all the comedy gold it’s worth.

And I was amazed at just how funny even the most mundane of things can be.

I won’t ruin the show for you, but it takes a special kind of person to pick up on the happiness of a clock face and to construct a poem just from comments left on a web story about flags.

The Powerpoint Presentation is yet another example of Dave’s ability to see the funny in the ordinary, and I, for one, already can’t wait for his next visit to town!

And if Dave happens to be reading this, I want him to know he’ll always be my second-favourite Jewish comedian.

– Dave Gorman’s Powerpoint Presentation is in Milton Keynes tonight (October 31), Guildford tomorrow (November 1) and Bournemouth on November 2.
