RISING star makes exciting debut with Worthing choir

THE Rowland Singers Choral Society was joined by talented guest soloist Abby Fell for its Step into Summer concerts.

Conducted by Helen Emery, with piano accompaniment by Kathryn Kay, the two concerts were held at Lancing Parish Hall and Emmanuel URC in Worthing.

The choir performed a wide repertoire of well-known songs and choruses, from Stephen Sondheim to Gilbert and Sullivan.

The programme included Cabaret, music by John Kander, selections from the choral suite Show Boat, music by Jerome Kern, and the music by Elton John, Abba and Willy Russell.

The singers also performed from the musicals Shrek and Blood Brothers, and gave the audience an exciting medley of Broadway numbers arranged by Kirby Shaw.

Making her debut, 18-year-old rising star Abby performed to a high standard and wowed the audience with her electric stage presence and versatile musicality.

The singer and stage performer sang a variety of songs from musicals, engaging her audiences from the start, displaying her meticulous preparation for each song.

Her duet with choir soprano Maxine Smith was a moving rendition of Pie Jesu, by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Abby also joined six choir sopranos and contraltos, singing I Feel Pretty from West Side Story, to great applause from the audience.

Both concerts supported the Motor Neurone Disease Association, with proceeds from the raffles and donations being given to the charity.

Worthing mayor and mayoress Michael Donin and Linda Williams attended the Worthing concert on Saturday, July 18.

Mr Donin concluded the evening by presenting a bouquet of flowers to Helen Emery and thanking her for an enjoyable concert, performed to such a high standard

He also encouraged all present to give generously to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
