Singers sought for Chichester Singing Day

Singers of all ages and abilities are wanted for this year’s Come & Sing day as part of the Festival of Chichester.

Administrator Polly Robson is promising a fun day for all concerned on Saturday, July 4, directed by her husband Arthur (above) at the Chapel of the Ascension, University of Chichester, College Lane, Chichester.

The event takes the form of an all-day rehearsal, followed by an evening performance at 7.30pm.

This year the music will be a concert version of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance.

The closing date for singers is June 26. Tickets £20 for singers (including music), £5 for audience; children free. Application forms for singers from the ticket office or from Polly Robson on 01243 823481 or email [email protected].

The event has been a regular on the Chichester calendar for the past 32 years. The summer outing tends to be fairly light-hearted, with an autumn singing day offering something rather more serious.

A core of regulars is expected, but Arthur and Polly are hoping for a big influx of first-timers. The ability to read music is useful, but not essential, Polly said.

“I can guarantee everyone will have a great time and everyone will learn something during the day,” Polly said.
