On Friday, October 30 from 7.30pm, award-winning performer Molly Beth Morossa presents an original and classically gothic tale Tales from Greywing House.

Co-producer Lauren Sweeney said: “The show intertwines dark storytelling, poetry and cabaret, a show which is sure to carry you out into deep, dark waters. An examination of isolation and loss with dashes of black comedy woven throughout, this haunting tale is perfect for the Halloween season. Reviving and reworking this Brighton Fringe 2015 hit, expect to meet new characters and uncover more dark secrets in this curious coastal town. Performed under the full moon.

“Greywing House sits precariously on the coast keeping watch over a cruel and tumultuous ocean. Miss Amelia has prepared your room and awaits your arrival to introduce guests both past and present, from sickly Mr Thurston upstairs, to little Lucy and her ‘friends’.

“Why has Miss Amelia been left to run the guest house alone? And who left another seagull carcass in the kitchen? Breakfast is unfortunately no longer provided as one can never be entirely certain of the time, and a few simple house rules: no smoking, no pets or animals (excepting, of course, Mr Thurston up the stairs) and no chanting of evocations in communal areas.”

It comes past part of the Blue Moon Halloween Season alongside Séance.

“Gothic dress, macabre masks, Halloween costumes and frightful feasts are welcome to help get into the spirit. Brighton Open Air Theatre also has a bar to purchase hot drinks, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks.”

The shows mark the launch of a new partnership between Brighton-based cultural producers Lauren Sweeney and Nikki Shaill.

“We are local freelance creatives and very much doing what we can to make sure that Brighton can still have fun this Halloween! We have both been in the events and performing industry for a number of years and have always had a love for the macabre and the spooky – so when this opportunity came up at the wonderful BOAT we jumped at the chance to put something together.

“Our shows are planned to be socially distanced so that our audiences can enjoy the show without worrying about Covid-19. We've done the hard work there. The venue has also worked really hard to make sure the show will go on. All the audience have to do is turn up and have a great time. They are also very encouraged to dress in their best Halloween get up if they so wish.”

Previous credits between them include immersive theatrical dining feasts, festivals in graveyards, night carnivals, lantern parades, after-dark takeovers at National Trust and Historic Royal Palace heritage properties, experimental museum lates and more. Indulge in spirited and spine-tingling fun this Halloween!
