PREVIEW: Rough Justice at Theatre Royal Brighton

Rough Justice runs from October 8-12 at the theatre in New Road, Brighton, and sees Tom play television journalist James Highwood, a man who has made his career out of challenging the British justice system in his documentary programmes.

Then, suddenly, he finds the system challenging him as he is brought to court on a charge of murder. Highwood admits the killing but perversely chooses to defend himself, pushing the tolerance of the court to its limits and framing his defence in terms calculated to incense the judge.

Alongside Dame Judi Dench, Tom Conti was recently voted the Most Popular Actor in the West End in the last 25 years. Last seen at Theatre Royal Brighton in Wife After Death, his many memorable television roles include Lark Rise to Candleford and Miranda and his film roles include the recent Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises, the unforgettable Shirley Valentine and Reuben, Reuben, for which he received the Best Actor Oscar nomination.

Royce Mills appears in the role of the Judge. Royce also starred in Wife After Death alongside Tom on it’s critically acclaimed UK tour in 2010, and has a host of stage and TV credits to his name including Wife begins at Forty, Phantom of the Opera in the West End, Minder and CrossRoads. They will be joined by Mary Lincoln, David Michaels, Shaun Morton, Simon Murray, Elizabeth Payne and Carol Starks.

Terence Frisby has worked extensively for nearly 50 years as actor, director and producer. His most famous play, There’s A Girl In My Soup, was London’s longest-running comedy (1966-1972) and a worldwide smash hit with long runs on Broadway, in Paris, Berlin, Stockholm, Sydney, Rome, Vienna, Prague. It is still constantly produced across the globe.

His other stage plays include: The Subtopians, The Bandwagon, It’s All Right If I Do It Seaside Postcard and Funny About Love.
