When Children Rule the World in Walberton!

Walberton Players Youth Theatre's production, which ran from 23rd to 25th February 2017, was a feast of song and dance taken from the most popular West End shows, which gave the young cast every opportunity to shine. The children were word perfect, note perfect and their enthusiasm was infectious.

The show opened with a touching rendition by the whole company of Food Glorious Food from “Oliver”, followed by a beautifully plaintive Where is Love by Dominic McGreevy. Later, Alice Duke’s dance solo brought a great reaction from the audience, as did a slick Anything You Can Do by the talented Hunt girls. This was followed by the older girls who gave a classy and mature take on All That Jazz backed by the whole cast.

The second Act was full of a variety of turns, which showcased this very talented company. Their full ensemble pieces, such as Revolting Children and When Children Rule the World, gave full reign to their bubbling enthusiasm and teamwork. Intermingled were a number of quieter numbers, such as Emily Hunt’s cheeky cockney Wouldn’t it be Lovely and little Chloe Tivey’s sweet singing of Tomorrow. The show featured twenty musical numbers in all.

Throughout, the discipline and concentration of the cast was exemplary, and yet this clearly did not stop each member from enjoying themselves from first to last. The staging, costumes and choreography were excellent – congratulations to Lesley Mercer and the back room staff.

The show was produced and directed by Claire Dorey, who must be very proud that this, her first ever production, was so well received by Walberton’s enthusiastic audiences, which bodes well for future Walberton Players Youth Theatre productions under her direction.
