WINTER PROGRAMME: Comedy, jazz and more at Arundel’s Victoria Institute

WINTER 2010 sees a special programme on offer at Arundel’s Victoria Institute, with award-winning comedy from the Brighton Festival, a world-class jazz singer and a few local favourites.

Programme spokeswoman Glenda Harkess, a key figure in the Arundel Festival, said: “The Victoria Institute is in the heart of Arundel – a kitsch venue saved by the community and in need of restoration.

“Yet its shabby chic charm is appealing and inviting, especially with a top-notch programme of events, cheap bar and friendly service.

“The season continues with Smarty Pants productions’ award-winning comedy play Crimes Against Humanities Teachers from November 11-13, at 8.30pm.

“Written by Andy Thomas (real teacher and comedian), this hilarious play enjoyed sell-out houses during the Brighton Festival earlier this year, catch it while you can on the Arundel leg of its tour.

Tickets are £7/£6 members.

“Attila the Stockbroker is back in the Red Room, after too long an absence, on November 20 at 8.30pm – an evening of sharp-tongued, high energy, social surrealist rebel poetry and songs and unashamedly radical politics for a mere £6/£5 members.

“December sees resident Theatre group Drip Action’s seasonal production: Seven Wonders of the Ancient World from December 8 to 11 at 8pm each evening.

Festival with Dizzie Gillespie and sung with Stephane Grappelli at Carnegie Hall, New York, to name but a few!

“Heather will be bringing a little Christmas spice to The Vic performing alongside Arundel Jazz Club regulars Steve Thompson (double bass), Alex Eberhard (drums) and Terry Seabrook (piano).

“Tickets are £12/£10 members.”
