EVENT: The S.C.O.T.C.H. Team Conker Competition at The Spotted Cow, Hight Street, Angmering. Registration 1pm for a 1.30pm start. Teams of three players of all ages. JAZZ: This week at the Hare & Hounds in Portland Road Worthing we are pleased to present Mike Piggott Quartet. Mike Piggott began his musical career as guitarist/violinist, playing with reggae, soul and blues bands including working with Junior Marvin (the Wailers), and guitarist Peter Green. He has toured, recorded and broadcast with a wide range of artists (as both violinist and guitarist) including Ralph McTell, Phil Collins and Diz Disley. He is also a long-standing member of Keith Nichols’ Ragtime Orchestra and The Hot Club of London. Recent jazz festival successes include appearances with Bucky Pizzarelli, Ken Peplowski and Marty Grosz. He is recognised as one of Britain’s leading jazz violinists, influenced by Stephane Grappelli, Joe Venuti and Stuff Smith in particular. But, if you are just expecting to get ‘Gypsy Jazz’ you will be pleasantly surprised by his wide range of styles. He is accompanied tonight by Roy Hilton on piano, Godfrey Sheppard on bass and Malcolm Mortimore on drums. TALK: Worthing Archaeological Society begin their lecture series for 2016/2017 with their Con Ainsworth Memorial Lecture. As usual the lecture starts at 7.30pm and will be in the Lecture Theatre in the basement of Worthing Library. Amie Friend and Gordon Hayden will report on ‘Excavations at Goblestubbs Copse. The story so far…’, an overview of the excavations that have taken place at this Late Iron Age to Roman period enclosure, in the woods to the north west of Arundel, and its possible relationship with other sites in the area. There will be a chance to mingle afterwards with a cup of tea /coffee or a glass of wine. Visitors are welcome, entry £4, free to members.
