WILD GEESE

TODAY a flock of wild geeseRiding the guesting waves of the north windFlashed a dark arrow across the sky.

Their farewell cries pierced

The chill of the day

In a haunting dirge to autumn.

As I watched, wishing them well

They entered a cloud and

Disappeared.

Turning slowly away

I felt the dampt sting of snow

Lash my upturned face and hoped

They had not lingered too long.
