Worthing is a possible site for new Angry Birds activity park

RUMOURS that a theme park based on one of the worlds most popular mobile games will be coming to Worthing have been “blown out of proportion.”

It was thought that an Angry Birds Theme Park would be coming to Worthing following an article on the Huffington Post’s website, but Worthing Borough Council have now confirmed that the plan is to build on existing play equipment in Beach House Gardens, next to the new aquarena.

Lappset, who are working with Angry Birds, is one of a number of companies that have been asked to look at building a park at the site, and the council will also be taking designs from Jupiter, Russell and Eive.

Peter Vesterbacka, chief marketing officer of Rovio – creators of angry birds, said the park will combine the real world and the digital world to create a more active environment.

He said: “There is a big problem with childhood obesity in Western countries with children spending a lot of time playing computer games and watching TV. We have discovered that we can make learning fun, so why not make exercise fun?”

The park would include animal spring riders, swings, sandpits, a range of climbing towers with slides, and an Angry Birds arcade game that can be played outdoors in the park.

Angry Birds have recently launched their first official park in Finland, and are set to launch more across the UK with the plan to have “one in every neighbourhood”.
