Young wannabe pop stars, groups - and ‘the over 25s’ - turned up in their droves to show off their talent in the hopes of making it through the open auditions, and a chance to appear before the judges on TV later this year.

“Following the huge success of last year’s X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent auditions, we knew today was going to be another popular event,” said Churchill Square Centre Director Mark Buchanan-Smith.

Auditions kicked off at 10 o’clock for hopefuls waiting for their turn in the spotlight, and the specially-erected performance area in Churchill Square was a hive of activity throughout the day, as shoppers gathered to hear the performers and give shouts of encouragement.

“We know that there are some incredibly talented bands and singers in the region,” said Mark, “and it was terrific to see so many people of all ages come along to show off their talent. As always we were not disappointed with the quality of the singing and dancing on display, and we’re all excited to find out whether the next star of tomorrow comes from the area.”

The talent show hit Brighton as part of the show’s open audition tour, which is visiting towns and cities across the UK on the lookout for the next big breakout music stars.

“In 2012, series winner James Arthur had tried out at a mobile audition so it is a huge opportunity for budding artists and we’re proud and excited to be a part of it,” said Mark.

The hit show has uncovered some outstanding talent across the years and will return to ITV later this year alongside sister show, The Xtra Factor on ITV 2. Fans of the show can follow all the action via @TheXFactor on Twitter and Instagram and on Facebook.com/TheXFactor.
