Despite only having two barbers working on the day, The Man Barbershop in Linden Road manage to raise £2118.91 for Southampton Hospital after the taking donations for haircuts on Christmas Eve.

Owner Slaw Borkowski said: "It was a great day. It was really fun and there were a lot of people here so we raised a lot of money — almost double last year so we are really happy."

The day was made all the more festive with the arrival of guitarist Mark William Lake to serenade people with a range of Christmas covers.

"He did a really good job," Slaw said, "It was really super and he did it free of charge and donated a voucher [for a guitar lesson] as well. He is a really nice bloke.

"But the main thing is that we raised so much and at the end of the day all of our customers helped us with the raffle and everyone was helping to count the money because there was a lot."

This is the second year the shop has opened on Christmas eve and taken donations and Slaw said it will become a tradition.
