Bayside Apartments, a complex of 141 homes, is being built on the site of the Aquarena swimming pool and leisure centre in Brighton Road, which was demolished starting in November 2017.

Work on the site has continued throughout the lockdown.

Ben Cheal, managing director of Roffey Homes, said: “We are open and remained so as advised by the Secretary of State in late March, albeit with a significantly reduced workforce.

“We have of course lost some time but the key is working safely to the guidance issued by the Government and Construction leadership Council.

“We are lucky that the majority of the workforce can be placed within the 141 apartments to work alone and we currently restrict their ability to leave the site during the day.”

There are no more than 100 people back working on the site – which remains short of the average of 150 before the virus outbreak.

Mr Cheal said: “All being well, we still hope for the first completions this side of Christmas 2020.”

Each apartment will benefit from high specification interiors, full access to a seafront café and private health club which will boast a pool, spa, steam room, sauna and gym.
