Guild Care is welcoming new residents and chief executive Alex Brooks-Johnson explains what its care homes have to offer

Guild Care was established in 1933 with the goal of creating a kinder and more caring society. Starting as a voluntary organisation co-ordinating existing charitable efforts in Worthing, we have continued throughout the years to support the community in myriad ways.

Today, we are proud to operate three care homes with nursing – Caer Gwent, Linfield House and Haviland House – while also providing a community home care service. We have a strict ‘home for life’ ethos and will never ask any of our residents to leave due to their financial circumstances.

As a not-for-profit charity, we ensure that any surplus generated is used to keep enhancing our residents’ facilities while also supporting access to the homes for those that need it, as well as offering support to the Worthing community through our range of community services.

Obviously with the coronavirus pandemic and the current lockdown, many people are anxious and unsure, particularly when it comes to their loved ones and their living situations. However, we want to assure you that we have gone to great lengths to be able to continue to do what we do best, providing the care that people deserve. With thanks to out incredible and kind-hearted staff, rigorous risk assessments and plentiful stocks of PPE, we are able to safely facilitate admissions and socially-distanced visits.

While increasing our coronavirus safeguarding measures, we have continued our high level of care in each home. Our staff take satisfaction in taking the time to really get to know each resident, delivering compassionate, attentive person-centred care in loving and homely environments. Additionally, our high staff-to-resident ratio, including nurses on call 24/7, ensures that we fulfil both emotional and care needs.

We are proud of each of our care homes and that each of them provides their own unique environment for residents.

Caer Gwent combines superb residential living with 24-hour expert nursing care, supporting individuals with complex health conditions, particularly focusing on end of life support. The home is set in a quiet residential area of Worthing, featuring spacious and airy interiors, beautiful furnishings, a piano lounge and well-tended landscaped gardens.

Linfield House is a residential and nursing care home that includes an 11-bed dementia suite. In the 15 years that we have owned and run Linfield House, it has successfully supported couples, particularly when one has dementia and one does not.

Haviland House is our newest care home, having been purpose built in 2015 to fulfil the needs of residents living with different stages of dementia. The home provides a truly person-centred approach for its residents, who we know as ‘family members’. It is important that Haviland House, like all of our homes, feels like a real home, so we have created an environment in which our residents are happy, independent and confident.

I’m particularly proud to say that in Haviland’s latest inspection from the CQC, it was rated as Outstanding for responsiveness. Furthermore, in 2019 Haviland was a Best Dementia Care Home finalist in the National Dementia Care Awards and its health and wellbeing co-ordinator won the National Activity Providers Association’s Best Activity Co-ordinator award.
