Millie said: “This is the best news I’ve had in some time. Next year, I’m going to head out shopping and get some new clothes without worry.

“I would like the chance to say a big thank you to those know me around Littlehampton town who have helped and done their best at this particularly difficult time.”

The £250 prize went to Rosemary Kearsey from Littlehampton.

Mr Chace said the draw had been a good way for shoppers to support Littlehampton’s many independent retailers and local businesses in the run up to Christmas.

He added: “Encouraging residents to do their Christmas shopping locally is one of the ways we have been able to acknowledge and support the resilience of our local traders, who have had such a difficult year.”

The prize draw was a joint campaign between Arun District Council, Littlehampton Town Council and Littlehampton Traders Partnership to encourage people to shop locally.

Dr James Walsh, Arun’s cabinet member for the economy, said: “The coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating effect on local independent traders for whom Christmas is traditionally the most profitable part of the year.

“It is credit to the amazing spirit, generosity and tenacity of retailers that the festive spirit of Christmas is still very evident in Littlehampton.”

Shoppers collected a Love Local stamp when they spent £5 at participating shops, restaurants, hairdressers, cafés and other businesses in Littlehampton.

When they had collected five stickers, their loyalty card was entered in the draw.

The November prize was rolled over into December due to Covid-19 restrictions.
