Mince pies have gone out to nursing homes and biscuits have been given to nuns and NHS staff, thanks to community champion Alison Whitburn.

The campaign aims to help customers and communities feel festive this year, after nearly half of adults reported that their wellbeing was being affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

“A hamper of toys went to a local boy, Harrison, age two, who has been unwell, and dog food was given to Carleton dog kennels in Climping.

“A big hamper was made up for CLIC Sargent families who are at the Home from Home, Jean’s House in Southampton, over the Christmas period. It’s been a pleasure for us to take part in this.”

Hannah Johnston, Harrison’s mum, collected the hamper on his behalf, and said the act of kindness was a lovely surprise at a time when she had been feeling ‘a little flat with everything going on’.

Children at St Wilfrid’s Catholic Primary School in Angmering also benefited, receiving a giant box of popcorn for their film night.

Rebecca Singleton, community director at Morrisons, said: “Small acts of kindness go a very long way. They can make our world feel like a kinder, happier and more caring place.

“Our community champions are going out into their local communities and spreading some good cheer. It’s the right thing to do in this difficult year when our stores and communities have been pulling together to look after each other.”
