Themed monthly events at Rustington Hall help boost morale

Residents at Rustington Hall have had a wonderful summer, with monthly themed days to boost morale and build happy memories. Royal Ascot came to the nursing home, in Station Road, Rustington, and everyone donned their finery for the occasion. Tasha Rees, finance and estate manager, surprised residents by arriving with Pie, her 15-year-old, 17-hand high horse. Pie certainly enjoyed all the attention, as the residents brushed and talked to him. While strawberries, scones, cakes and cream were served with a glass or two of wine for the residents, Pie tucked into carrots and parsnips.

For the Pride at the Beach celebration, there were home-cooked fish and chips served in seaside cones, rainbow tier cakes and outside fun, including residents soaking staff, throwing water balloons and splashing around in paddling pools, and enjoying sandpits with a mocktail.

James Budd, quality assurance and compliance lead for Littlehampton & Rustington Housing Society, said: “Information and resources regarding the LGBTQ+ community were posted throughout the building to spread awareness and allow for discussion for both residents and staff, and rainbow flags were plentiful. Rustington Hall aims to make these difficult times with Covid-19 as eventful as possible, to build happy memories and boost morale for both staff and users of our service.”
