Sixth formers at the school for young people with special educational needs are looking for donations of seeds and surplus plants, especially vegetables, for their annual plant sale.

The community champions at Morrisons’ stores in Littlehampton and Worthing teamed up to donate plants and seeds to help.

Alison Whitburn from the Littlehampton store and Jo Easey from the Worthing store met Oak Grove College governor Caroline Nicholls to make the presentation.

Alison said: “We each donated plants and seeds. We worked together so that the school could have twice as much.”

The plants and seeds have been delivered to the college, where students are busy planting and repotting to grow on.

This year’s plant sale is being taken into the community and the school is asking for more volunteers who are prepared to run plant sales from their own homes, in support of Oak Grove, to make the annual fundraising event work under Covid-19 restrictions.

Teacher Carol Noble, who is part of the organising team, said: “Rather than receiving and selling a lot of plants from just one place, we are looking at receiving and selling batches of a few plants from lots of different places - and we will also run a delivery service of plants to customers’ homes.”

The sale can typically raise more than £2,000, which helps fund extra equipment and community outings for the school.
