Project Spartan, based at The Coliseum in Broadwater Boulevard, has decided to raise money for FareShare Sussex at the same time, with a target of £500.

Gym manager James Collins, who has been getting his steps in with his new puppy, said the team had put in a lot of work to help members stay active during lockdown.

They are being encouraged to get out into the fresh air and move as much as possible, as walking can be beneficial for mental and physical health.

James said: “Obviously, times are very tough for all local businesses currently. We are no different and have been putting in a lot of work to keep our community training via several online systems.

“We think it is important to not only look after ourselves during this time but support the local community around us as well.

“One thing we are doing in February is walking five million steps as a community. This is serving several purposes. For our members, it is to help keep them moving, especially those who are working from home, and gaining the physical benefits of doing so. But also, the mental health benefits of walking 30 to 60 minutes, to get some fresh air while moving, are huge.

“As part of reaching our five million step target, we have decided to raise funds for Fareshare, which provides food and meals to families who really need it during this time.”
