Counter services and the ATM at the branch in Montague Street will be unavailable from Thursday, January 7, until the branch reopens on Thursday, February 4.

In a poster, Nationwide said: “We’re making your branch even better. We’re really sorry if this causes you any problems.”

The smaller branch in Goring Road will remain open 9am to 2pm Monday to Friday with counter service only, as there is no cash machine.

The nearest main branch is Nationwide Hove at 19 George Street, Hove.

The new look for the Worthing town centre branch will be a total transformation, with a more open style, featuring specific areas where members will be looked after rather than the current counter and ATM layout.

Mandy Beech, director of retail, said: “It is our belief as a building society that while technology provides convenience, it is our people who offer service. That’s why, as a mutual, we passionately believe in the future of branches, and more importantly the people within them.

“We are investing £350 million across our branch network because it is in our branches that our people help, support and advise the millions of members who choose to visit us every day.”

Nationwide wants the branch to be welcoming and the new open-plan branch will have areas devoted to convenience, conversation, consultation and community.
