The Southwick Rangers U11s girls’ team will now be able to play in the Sussex County Women & Girls Football League, having been sponsored by Cavell House.

Many of the residents at the care home, in Middle Road, Shoreham, have been involved in grassroots football in the past and they are thrilled to see the team’s sponsored kit for the 2020/21 season.

Sara Tuffin, Southwick Rangers’ club secretary, said: “This has had a massive impact on the girls. Most of the girls are new to football and haven’t played before, or been part of a team, and they now have the same kit as the rest of the club, so they feel they belong to Southwick Rangers.

“Because of the pandemic, we weren’t sure if anyone would sponsor our squads and as we rely on sponsors and subs from members, times have been hard.

“From everyone at Southwick Rangers, and the girls especially, we would like to give a huge thank you to Cavell House for sponsoring the kit and allowing the girls to play.”

Nikki Stevenson, home manager, said the girls looked fantastic in their new strips and wished them good luck for the future.

She added: “Here at Cavell House, it is very important to us that we support local organisations where we can, and give back for the support that we regularly receive.

“Many of our residents are huge football fans and we even have a couple of ex-players, so it was only right that we supported a local club.

“We chose to support the Southwick Rangers U11s because of their positive attitudes and commitment to the sport.”

Resident Dereck Chatten, 88, is a former player and a huge football fan, so he understands how much donations and support from local businesses mean to teams like this.

He said: “It was a wonderful idea to sponsor the Southwick Rangers U11s girls’ team and help them continue their footballing careers. I wish them the best of luck for their season.”
