Thermometer firm boss backs awards

Mr Webb, who owns digital thermometer manufacturers ETI, in Easting Close, East Worthing, won last year’s lifetime achievement award, while the firm scooped two awards.

And while the nominations process can be time-consuming, Mr Webb believes it is an investment worth making.

He said: “For any business, the awards can not only be a great source of credibility to customers, suppliers and investors but they can also be a big motivator internally, making staff proud to be part of the business and for many businesses that motivation can be worth more than any cash reward.”

Last year’s awards saw Mr Webb’s firm emerge victorious in the overall business of the year and innovation categories.

The competition is always vast and of the highest quality but ETI will be in prime position to win more accolades this time, too.

“There is no doubt that winning our second Queens Award for Exports this year was a significant achievement for ETI,” said Mr Webb.

“We are continuing to grow the business home and abroad, which in turn has created over 15 new jobs locally, which has to be a big plus.

“Our R&D team continue to be innovative and we have just had a patent approved for a new type of rotating LCD display, a first in the thermometer industry world-wide.”

Last week, judges of the awards gave their top tips for potential entrants on how to make an impression with applications.

Mr Webb recommends ensuring business owners take time to sell their success stories.

He said: “First of all, enter the right category, and ensure you tell your story to the best of your ability.

“There are some great businesses in Worthing but too often these business to do not get the credit to match their performance. “

He added: “Creating your awards application can often seem like a daunting process, especially when as a business owner you have a million other tasks to do.

“But in reality the time spent entering the awards can be an investment rather than a cost.

“Even if you don’t win, being part of the whole experience can be incredibly rewarding.”
