Blane Torode, 33, is currently unable to work properly, so he has been putting his time and effort into raising money for NHS Charities Together.

He is not really a runner but he set himself the challenge of covering at least 300k in 32 days.

He hit his target on Sunday following a 14k run that took 1 hour 11 minutes and 11 seconds.

Blane said: “I hit my target of 300k with two days to spare, averaging 10k a day for 30 days. The support has been unreal.”

He also hit his other goal on Saturday, beating four minutes per kilometre on the 10th kilometre by completing it in 3 minutes 55 seconds.

Blane has so far raised £2,100 for NHS Charities Together.

He said: “My goal was trying to achieve more than 300k in 32 consecutive days. I’m raising money for the NHS, trying to turn a negative into a positive in these hard times and give something back to those who help us all on a daily basis.

“I planned the route at the start. I didn’t train for it, I literally woke up one day and decided to do it. It was just a massive challenge. I’m okay, I don’t mind it, but I’m not usually a runner.

“I had bad blisters after the first four or five days but people started sponsoring me and I thought I can’t stop now. Setting the goal helped.”

Blane has got his own business, BT Concrete Specialists, but it is difficult to work in the circumstances, especially as some of the jobs he has listed are as far as Salisbury.

He said: “I didn’t want to start a job and then not be able to complete it because of the lockdown. By doing the running, I don’t feel so lethargic and it helps the mental health side, you get a clearer head.”

Blane has been running from Toddington Lane down through Wick to the seafront, along the beach to Rustington and back via The Lamb.
