Sharon Clarke announced plans to leave her role as town centre business manager at the Worthing Town Centre Initiative (TCI) - a collection of traders - in May after becoming frustrated by 'niggling' issues and concerns over communication breakdown with Worthing Borough Council. But Sharon has now reversed her decision, following discussions with the TCI's directors.

She said a few operational changes being made would help her do her job more effectively, which had allowed the directors to convince her to stay.

Reaction to Sharon's departure on social media was one of almost universal sadness, particularly from the town centre's traders.

On the Herald's Facebook page, some commenters raised concerns over issues including potholes and investment - both the responsibility of local authorities such as Worthing Borough Council and West Sussex County Council.

Sharon said she had been blown away and 'humbled' by the supportive comments.

Local businessman Benedict Farr said that, as a local shop owner, the TCI and Sharon couldn't have been more supportive and helpful. "She will be missed," he added.
