With Christmas fast approaching, there’s no better time to get all your festive essentials sorted.
From writing cards to relatives you’ve not seen in years to digging out those cobweb-ridden decorations, there’s lots to do in December.
To make things that little bit easier though, we’ve compiled a list of the best Christmas jumpers for 2018. Including high street favourites and stores you may not have heard of, we’ve tried and tested a whole range to bring you a selection of the most festive numbers out there.
We reviewed each jumper based on its festive cheer, general fit, and fabric quality. There are ones for the scrooges among us, the Christmas-obsessed and for the style-conscious. Happy shopping!
£22.50, Shop Disney
Best for: A magical Christmas
Key specs- Fabric: Acrylic blend; Sizes: XS to XL; Colour options: Grey
We love this fun, festive jumper, which is lightweight and super-soft so you can stay warm and cosy. At £30, the price tag is higher than some of the other jumpers on this list but you’ll be able to wear it for years to come. The striped sleeves contrast brilliantly with the vibrant character print on the front, while Minnie’s sequinned, sparkly bow is the icing on top of the festive fruit cake. Beware, the sizing is quite generous though, so always go down a size if unsure.
£29, Not On The High Street
Best for: Simplicity
Key specs- Fabric: Cotton blend; Sizes: XS-2XL; Colour options: Navy, black
Who doesn’t love The Pogues at Christmas? This piece ticks all the festive boxes without going full bells and whistles. The jumper is also 80 per cent cotton, meaning you won’t be cooking like a roasted turkey when the heating is on, while the fabric is high quality and soft on the inside. It can even withstand a wash without the printed letters fading or rubbing off. All items from Lovetree Design are hand-printed in the West Midlands.
From £12.95, Beyond Retro
Best for: One of a kind prints
Key specs- Fabric: Cotton blend; Sizes: One size only; Colour options: Variety
Beyond Retro is an online collective of unique vintage pieces from across the country. Its selection of Christmas jumpers is extensive with various styles, colours and sizes available. Each piece is usually completely one of a kind, meaning once its off the site, it’s gone. We love this cheery number with bows, bells and beading. The fabric is high quality and the detail in the embroidery is intricate.
Sizing is something to consider when buying vintage, though. Beyond Retro has its own guide that may differ to other stores, so it’s best to check your measurements against the ones listed on the site to be sure.
£375, Chinti & Parker
Best for: A festive splurge
Key specs- Fabric: 100% cashmere; Sizes: XS-XL; Colour options: Green
Ok, so this one isn’t under £50 but we just had to put it in. What you’re losing in Christmas pocket money though, you’re gaining in style, class and comfort. Made from 100 per cent cashmere, the jumper feels luxurious on the skin and its crew neck and loose fit are extra cosy. While Hello Kitty isn’t something we usually associate with Christmas, the cat in a Santa hat emblazoned on the front adds something different to your festive wardrobe. The jumper’s high-quality knit means the inside of the jumper is clean and neat with no loose strands getting on your nerves.
Best for: Dog lovers
Key specs- Fabric: Acrylic blend; Sizes: 8-22; Colour options: Red
It’s important to make sure our furry friends feel included at Christmas, which is why we love this animal-themed jumper. The puppy, whose breed remains unclear (our money is on cocker spaniel) has sequined antlers and a jingling bell on its collar. The crew neck and slouchy fit makes this quirky jumper a simple but unusual piece, too. The fabric is lightweight (although a bit sweaty with prolonged wear) true to size and machine washable, so you can get as much wear out of it as this season allows.
Best for: Those with their hearts’ still in summer
Key specs- Fabric: Cotton blend; Sizes: S-XL; Colour options: Black
Star Wars is huge this Christmas and we love this galaxy-inspired number, decorated with the Death Star as a bauble, a pair of lightsabers and Darth Vader himself. Star Wars is timeless so we’re sure you’ll be bringing this out for years to come, too.
We love how the bright colours stand out against the black background making the print pop. It also washes well with none of the patterns fading. Even though there are a wide range of sizes available (S-XL), the jumper does run small, so go bigger than usual if you want to achieve the slouchy look.
£34, Not On The High Street
Best for: A family get-together
Key specs- Fabric: Cotton blend; Sizes: XS-XL; Colour options: Red, grey
Who doesn’t love sloths? Any excuse to bring these adorable furry friends into the Christmas season is welcome here and this jumper does just that. This snoozing sloth in a Christmas hat, lounging on a holly branch, is full of Christmas cheer. Plus, you can get one for the whole family. Available in children’s sizes 3-13 years, you can be a troop of festive marsupials all season long. Made of 80 per cent cotton and 20 per cent polyester, the jumper passes the wash test and is resistant to mulled wine spillages (no, its not too early).
£32, Not On The High Street
Best for: A boozy Christmas bash
Key specs- Fabric: Cotton blend; Sizes: XS-2XL; Colour options: Black, green, red, navy blue
There’s no question about it, gin has been huge this year. And why leave it in summer? With this cheerful number, you’ll gin-gle all the way to top spot at your office Christmas party. Featuring festive-themed bottles with Christmas hats and mistletoe, this jumper is well-suited to the most boozy-est time of the year. Plus, its fleece-lined on the inside, making it toasty warm in these colder months. The jumper has a huge range of sizes, and being made of 50 per cent cotton, its breathable and durable for future wear.
Best for: Value
Key specs- Fabric: Polyester; Sizes: S-XL; Colour options: White
Pom-poms aren’t usually a Christmas staple, but we can’t resist this cheerful, sparkly number. The fabric is soft and the wide crew neck makes it extra cosy. We love the girly choice of pink in the sequined slogans on the front- they contrast brilliantly with the off-white background, too. Do bear in mind that the oversized pom-poms mean it must be washed by hand. But, at £14, this jumper is a real steal and we’re confident you’ll wear it year after year.
Best for: A season-wide wardrobe staple
Key specs- Fabric: Cotton blend; Sizes: 8-20; Colour options: Navy
This jumper can be worn all season long. The subtle robins embroidered on the front are a delicate nod to the winter season. While this does hike up the price, the jumper is made using the same high-quality knitting technique as the Chinti & Parker sweater, meaning the jumper is free from loose, irritating strands. The contrast detailing on the cuffs adds a little extra something special to this classy piece, too. We’re confident that this jumper will stand the test of time.
