Children aged two to five at Ferring Funtime Pre-school were interested to see the chain of office and Mr McDonald explained it was more than 125 years old.

He also showed them the badge of Worthing and the badge of Sussex.

Jacqui Page, office administrator, said: "The mayor met and chatted to the children and was happy to answer questions about his role.

"The pre-school is keen to make links with the community to support children’s understanding of rules and responsibilities within other professions."
