Animation tracks every coronavirus death in Sussex since the outbreak started

More than 1,000 people have sadly died with coronavirus in Sussex since the beginning of March.

According to the Office for National Statistics, coronavirus was mentioned on the death certificates of 1,080 people across the county up to the week ending June 7.

Mid-Sussex has been the worst affected, with 159 deaths, while Hastings has fared best having recorded nine deaths.

The figures are tragic and many of us have lost friends and loved ones since the first death was recorded on March 15.

This animation shows the sobering increase in fatalities across the county, but also brings cause for optimism as the rise in numbers is clearly shown to slow.

With confirmed cases and recorded deaths on the decline, the UK is cautiously making its way out of lockdown, but the already harrowing figures show the fight is not over.

These numbers include deaths that occurred outside of hospital, such as in care homes and at home.
