A Year 11 class from Sir Robert Woodard Academy, in Upper Boundstone Lane, has been told to self-isolate after the infection was revealed yesterday evening (October 6).

Head teacher Kieran Scanlon emailed parents within an hour of the positive test and said close contacts of the student, who is said to be 'fine', were being contacted.

Mr Scanlon said: "The risk assessments that we have in place and all the bubbles, this is the moment where you realise why we did them.

"We're taking advice from Public Health England and following their guidelines."

In his email to parents, he added that additional cleaning would take place in the school and the pupil who tested positive had not been into the building since last week, as they had self-isolated while they waited for their test results.

He said the school was lucky in that it has enough entrances and exits for each year group to have its own path into the building.

Online learning was also being set up for the pupils affected.
