Andy Hall has volunteered at the Shoreham Coastguard for 18 years, and around five weeks ago sadly fell ill with coronavirus.

The 72-year-old's condition worsened and he was taken into intensive care at Worthing Hospital, with no visitors or contact from the outside world.

In an attempt to boost their friend's spirits, the Coastguard team put together a video sending their love, with the prerequisite teasing to go with it.

Rescue Officer Carl Ladkin was one of the driving forces behind the message.

"Andy couldn't have visitors or that kind of thing in ICU, but we thought if we could send him a video then the nurses could show him we were thinking of him," he said.

"There's 12 of us in Shoreham and we volunteer together all times of the day, all year round, so we're quite close and support each other.

"But the support is not just for Andy, but for anyone else with family going through that. And it's a thank you to the fantastic work of the NHS and Worthing Hospital."

Thankfully, Andy has now been discharged from intensive care and is continuing his recovery.

Carl said the retiree had continued with an active lifestyle of kayaking and other watersports, which had helped him overcome the virus.
