West Sussex coronavirus cases rise sharply – here are the figures for your area

The number of coronavirus cases in West Sussex continues to rise in all areas, with some seeing dramatic spikes.

With parts of East Sussex, Kent, Surrey and Hampshire all in Tier 4 restrictions, West Sussex is surrounded on all sides by counties with higher rates of infection.

No local authorities in West Sussex yet come close to Hastings’ infection rate of 878.5 cases per 100,000 people, but numbers area heading in the wrong direction.

Mid-Sussex currently has the highest rate of infection in West Sussex with 267.5 per 100,000 people as of the week December 11-17.

That shows an increase of 136 per cent from the previous week.

Adur has seen the sharpest spike, as its infection rate increased by 169 per cent within a week to 213.1 per 100,000 people.

For context, the average area in England has an infection rate of 211 positive cases per 100,000 people.

Here are all the infection rates for West Sussex, for the week December 11-17, plus how much they have risen from the previous week. All figures are provided by Public Health England:

Mid-Sussex: 267.5 per 100,000 – increase of 136%

Crawley: 218.8 per 100,000 – increase of 89%

Adur: 211 per 100,000 – increase of 169%

Arun: 210.9 per 100,000 – increase of 108%

Worthing: 127.5 per 100,000 – increase of 91%

Chichester: 118.1 per 100,000 – increase of 51%

Horsham: 114,1 per 100,000 – increase of 17%

Since the start of the pandemic, 67,616 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for coronavirus in the UK.

A total of 2,073,511 positive cases have been recorded.

Yesterday (December 21), it was revealed around 500,000 people in the UK have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine over the last two weeks.
