What tier is West Sussex in? All you need to know about the latest coronavirus guidelines

As the UK prepares to emerge from the second national lockdown on December 2, regions across the country are preparing for a return to the tiered system.

Areas will be placed in one of three tiers, ranging from the most lenient – tier one – to the most draconian social restrictions in tier three.

The Government has announced today (November 26) that West Sussex will join the vast majority of the nation in tier two, meaning it is on ‘high alert’.

That is an increase in severity from restrictions in place before the lockdown, which were at tier one.

Coronavirus infections in every area of West Sussex have been below the national average, according to Public Health England, but the Government appears to be taking a cautious approach to loosening social guidelines.

A total of 8,774 people have tested positive in the county since the pandemic began, with a further 109 testing positive yesterday.

The daily average number of cases has been falling since November 13, according to Public Health England’s figures.

Tier two means people cannot socialise indoors with other households outside of their own bubble and can mix with up to six people outdoors – maintaining the Rule of Six laid out before lockdown.

Pubs and bars must close, unless operating as restaurants and hospitality venues can only serve alcohol with substantial meals.
