The award-winning provider, Care2Connect, has itself contributed £1,000 to the fund in recognition of the dedication shown by its team during the past months.

Chairman Colin Young said: “We very much appreciate the support that our staff have received from the whole community through the ‘Clap for Carers’ tribute, but we wanted to do more.

Local care teams consisting of 60 frontline workers have continued to provide support to 120 elderly or disabled people in the Worthing area who depend on the service.

The organisation’s hope is that the fund will keep growing to reach £6,000 so the entire team can be rewarded with a meal or gift vouchers to recognise their efforts when the worst of the crisis is over.

The wife of one Care2Connect customer, Jenny Stewart said: “The continued support we have had from Care2Connect’s dedicated team has been a lifeline.

Lockdown measures introduced by the government to limit the spread of the disease have meant that many families have been unable to visit or help loved ones.

Care2Conect’s frontline staff have filled this gap by providing services including shopping and medication collection and organisation, in addition to regular personal care visits.

Donations to the fund can be made by calling the Care2Connect team on 01903264089.
