If you want to volunteer and make someone smile, just get in touch with the charity.

The Association of Carers, which matches volunteers with unpaid carers across East Sussex, provides an invaluable service to the carers it supports – but is in need of more volunteers to help.

The Hastings-based charity works to reduce isolation and encourage independence, and gives carers a regular break from their 24/7 role.

By offering carers a regular, set time for breaks, it gives them something to look forward to and enables them to plan what to do with the time. Volunteers are given regular training too, as well as continued support from the charity’s office team.

The charity takes the time to carefully match volunteers with families who might share similar interests or who may have some shared experiences, so the arrangement is fulfilling on both sides.

Volunteers are also matched with a family in their local community so that they can easily reach the people they are helping.
