“She decided to raise some money for SJA by promising to shave her head, because a lot of SJA volunteers are shaving their beards to make sure that protective masks fit securely whilst supporting the NHS in this time of crisis.

“Rosie decided to shave her head to stand in solidarity with her St John colleagues. This is a big undertaking for a 12-year old.”

During the Covid-19 outbreak, St John is actively supporting ambulance services, hospitals and communities to protect life and health through this worrying and uncertain period.

Surgeon Rear Admiral Lionel Jarvis, prior and chairman of St John Ambulance, said: “Our volunteers are working tirelessly to support the NHS, crewing ambulances, delivering assistance in emergency departments and helping in their local communities, as well as providing vital co-ordination and training behind the scenes.

“I would like to pay tribute to all our volunteers, both past and present, not only those who gave their time freely during the Second World War but also those who are offering their skills to keep people safe in 2020 as we live through these unprecedented times. Their dedication will not be forgotten.”
