Christmas capers in the snow in 2010

It may have been well below freezing in December 2010 but it did not stop hundreds of Robertsbridge residents, young and old, joining in the annual Christmas Capers. In the snow, the village looked like a picture postcard, matching the Dickensian theme of the children’s procession that year.

There was a Scottish piper, who joined the procession down High Street and provided music from his bagpipes alongside the beautifully-lit floats and lanterns. At the time, it was said to be the biggest procession Robertsbridge Christmas Capers had ever seen. With the shops, the United Reformed Church and residents’ homes open to provide a welcome, plus the carol singing and queues for Father Christmas, there was a real community atmosphere.

Street entertainment included a magician arriving on a Penny Farthing style bicycle and Father Christmas kept the children happy – even getting a cheeky kiss at The George Inn. All in all, the success of the event suggested the decision to go ahead, despite the weather, had been the right one. Organisers thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the 2010 Christmas Capers event.
