Do you recognise this army man?

This photo was sent in by Marjorie Semmence after she found it among her father’s belongings.

Marjorie, who now lives in Coddenham, Suffolk, said: “I do not know if the young man was a special friend, but it is my father’s writing on the back, and he was in the army himself.”

Marjorie’s father’s writing, on the back of the card, identifies the man in the photo as L/Cpl C. Lisher, of the 12th Royal Sussex Regiment, and adds that the photo was taken in 1918.

Marjorie added: “I went to Worthing High School myself, and remember a Lilian Lisher, so I thought the Lance Corporal might be from a local family, and that someone in Worthing would be interested.

“I was born in Worthing in 1922, and lived in Valencia Road. I was married at Tarring Church in 1940.

“My husband was demobbed in 1946, when we and our two daughters moved to Suffolk.

“I now have four daughters and a son, 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

“Although I have been here nearly 70 years, Sussex, with sea and downs, is still home!”
