Worthing school friends from 1950s sought

Memories from primary school in Worthing in the 1950s have been sent in, in response to a Retro article we carried in August.

Dr Peter Hardstone is keen to make contact with old friends from Homefield Primary School, which closed in 1960 .

He spotted a photo from 1956, sent in by Graham Isted, and although he was not featured himself, it brought back some happy memories.

Dr Hardstone is now living in Singapore but he grew up in Worthing and was a pupil at Homefield Primary in the 1950s.

He said: “I was there at that time but I couldn’t recognise myself in that picture.

“I joined the school in August 1955 and studied there until July 1959. I had teachers Miss Oughton and Mr Williams and my younger brother, Alec, had Miss Huggett.

“Many of the students in my class I can recognise from the 1956 picture.

“Today I am 72 years old, still working full-time as a university lecturer. I would be pleased to catch up with any ex-classmates who may still be alive!”
