Meeting set to find a focal point for Bognor's art

A MEETING next week could begin to unlock the potential for a focal point for the arts in Bognor Regis.

The get-together is taking place at 7pm on Tuesday (November 15) at The Lodge in Hotham Park.

It has been called by Su Cloud, the founder of Community Arts Bognor Regis, to discuss the desire to open a creative centre in the town.

She said: “The creative centre will have an exhibition space, a gallery for people to show what Bognor can offer, a cafe and shop.

“There is no space in the town where local artists can display their work and to hold workshops in the summer holidays and when the weather’s bad.

“There are not many indoor areas in the town where people can go in the winter.”

The venture would be a social enterprise run by the community for the community.

“A small staff would be paid from the money received for workshops and other activities; that is better than being a charity where there is a constant search for volunteers and grants.”

Su has two possible locations in mind for the centre: one is the large room in the ticket hall at the town’s railway station, which has been empty for some 15 years.

The other is in a potential new cafe in Hotham Park.

Architect Nick Hopper devised designs for a treehouse in the park.

These are on hold but he has drawn illustrations for Tuesday’s meeting.

Space for the meeting is limited.

Places are free but should be booked with Sue by emailing [email protected]
