A CHARITABLE couple who volunteer their time to help children in Worthing are celebrating after being awarded a vital grant of £1,000.
Mick’s Garage, a community service run by Mick and Chriss Smith based in Angola Road, was presented the cheque by Jenni Pilgrim from Worthing Community Chest.
Chriss, 65, said the grant had enabled them to pay for 115 children to go on day-trips.
Chriss, of Sackville Road, said: “We really want to thank Jenni Pilgrim from the Community Chest.
“She’s a lovely woman and they do a fantastic job there.
“We really appreciate the support they’ve given us and the support from other people to help us do what we do.
“That money really is so important for Mick’s Garage.”
The garage offers support to children primarily between the ages of five and 16, and also organises day-trips for them to places such as Butlin’s.
Chriss said the day-trips were so popular, children were already asking about the next ones, which have been planned for the end of October.
She added: “It’s been a brilliant year for us.
“Mick’s Garage is going strong, which is exactly how we want it.”
