As it was not needed, the air ambulance was stood down.

Sussex Police was also at the scene to close part of the road following the accident.

A spokesman described it as a minor injury road traffic collision and that the road was open again as of 4pm.

It is not linked to the large fire at a nearby industrial estate in Lancing, which has also led to road closures in the immediate vicinity.

"The officers administered first aid to the rider of the motorcycle, and he was left in the care of paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service.”
