The long-time owners of Montagues Tex Mex in Montague Street announced last month that the restaurant had been sold

“It’s with a heavy heart we have to tell you we have sold Tex Mex,” a spokesperson for the family said at the time.

“We want to thank all of you for your continued support and custom, getting us through four recessions.

“It’s been such fun and a pleasure to serve you all.”

Readers have taken to social media to express their sadness at the sale, with many reminiscing about their meals there.

Writing on the Herald Facebook page, Worthing resident Laura Goddard described Montagues Tex Mex as a ‘firm family favourite’ and wished both the outgoing and new owners good luck.

Darren Jeffery called the business ‘a true stalwart of the Worthing restaurant scene that first introduced us all to the fajita’.

Another woman, Lauren, now 33, looked back at her eighth birthday party at Montagues Tex Mex.

One of the outgoing owners, Bernadette Stevenson, thanked everyone for the ‘lovely comments’ and sought to reassure people that the new owners had been shown the ropes.

“Our chefs and some front of house staff are staying,” she commented.

“We spent the last three weeks as a handover period to introduce the new owner to the restaurant as it’s been our baby for so many years.

“Nothing should be changing,” she added.
