Adur, Arun and Worthing walkers needed

MEN, women and children from across Adur, Worthing and Arun are invited to get up with the lark.

Winston’s Wish, which supports bereaved children, will hold its third annual Sunrise Walk on September 25.

A spokeswoman for the charity said: “It is hoped around 100 walkers will put their best feet forward in the 10-mile stretch from Littlehampton to Lancing, taking in the stunning seaside views as the sun rises at 6am.

“The walk starts from the Windmill Complex, Littlehampton, and follows the coastal footpath until it reaches Lancing Beach Green.

“Walkers taking part this year will be handed a glowing balloon to mark the start of the event, before setting off into the sunrise. Last year, the walk raised £12,000, with around 60 people taking part, including families, and it is hoped to increase that number for this year’s event.”

The charity, which is based in Three Bridges, offers support to families coping with death in Shoreham, Lancing, Worthing, Littlehampton, and across West Sussex.

Winston’s Wish has helped more than 500 families since it was set up, in 2006, but relies heavily on donations and proceeds from events such as the Sunrise Walk to survive.

The spokeswoman added: “The walk allows family, friends and colleagues the opportunity to take part in something very special, have fun, get fit or remember somebody important to them, while making a wish for the future.”

There is a £15 entry fee, and each walker receives a t-shirt, goodie bag and breakfast at the end. To register, go to www.sunrisewalk.co.uk or call 01293 934583.
