Adur Festival: Free sessions to engage community

This year, we made available a Food of Love Fund, a pair of £1,000 grants for artists in the Adur district to create something for the Lancing or Southwick street parties at the end of the festival.

We wanted the artists to engage with the theme Food of Love and work with the community in those areas to create the work collaboratively.

We are delighted we have been able to award the funding to two excellent proposals. Hannah Boal, of Hands On Workshops, is creating a fantastical Alice In Wonderland tea party at the Lancing Street Party, and Elizabeth Mienert, of Pop Gun Productions, is presenting the Fishersgate Popcorn Parade at the Southwick Street Party.

Pop Gun Productions is running a workshop at the Fishersgate Centre on May 26, 10am to 1pm. Not only is entry free, but all materials are provided, too. There is no need to book in advance, just turn up and get creative. Pop Gun Productions is also working with children from Eastbrook Primary Academy to create the parade.

There are two chances to craft some creations for the Alice in Wonderland tea party. Hands On Workshops is organising two sessions at Sompting Big Local Hub, on May 28, 1pm to 5pm, and May 29, 10am to 3pm. Again, these are both free and do not require advance booking, so come along and get stuck in.
