Adur has third fastest broadband speed in UK, study finds

The area was found to have a median download speed of 29.2Mbps, far above the UK average, which the report found to be 17Mbps.

It came third to Tamworth in the West Midlands, which had the fastest speed with an average of 30.4Mbps, and Reading.

The minimum download speed proposed under the Government’s Universal Service Obligation is 10Mbps.

The research, which used data from Speed Checker Ltd from January to March 2017, shows the variance across the UK and the need to improve the speeds, a spokesperson from Which? said.

The Orkney Islands was ranked as the local authority with the worst broadband speed, with a median download speed of 6.3Mbps.

“We are encouraging everyone with broadband to use our speed checker so people can see if they are getting the speeds that they’ve been promised by their provider and find out how to complain if their speed is too slow.

“This will also help to further highlight where problem areas are across the UK, putting pressure on Government and providers to help everyone get a good broadband connection.”
