The children, from Thomas A’ Becket First School, swapped their school uniforms for imaginary space character outfits, as well as astronaut, alien and space scientist costumes.

A range of activities were held to help inspire the children to write their own stories set in space. The day included drama, role-play and speaking and listening activities.

Leila Kemp, the school’s year three leader, said: “All the children agreed that one of the highlights of the day was eating some delicious ‘space’ food. The ice-cream was definitely a favourite, as well as the bananas and strawberries.”
