All the fun of theCrowhurst Fayre...

The Crowhurst Village Fayre will be held on the Recreation Ground, Hastings Road next Saturday, August 13, 2-5pm and organisers say it promises to be yet another great day out for the all the family.

The fayre will be opened by Crowhurst’s favourite, John Spall, who describes himself as a ‘long term but still active old resident’.

Tim Knaggs of the Crowhurst Fayre Committee says an integral part of the event will be the Crowhurst and District Horticultural Society’s annual Summer Show.

“It will be held in the marquee, with its wonderful displays of flowers, vegetables, cookery and handicrafts,” he said.

“Once again, local beekeepers plan to mount an observation hive as part of this show.”

Highlights in the arena will be the Section Five Drummers, Taekwondo (Korean martial art), a pipe display by Jon Bartholomew Hastings Town Crier- who recently won the accolade of being the UK’s best Town Crier.

Outdoor activities for all ages include paint balling, axe throwing, a children’s tug of war, pony rides, a Romany caravan and a coconut shy.

For petrolheads, there’s a display of classic, vintage and veteran cars and motor bikes. A fire engine will available for children to visit and talk to the crew. Furry Friends and 1066 Birds of Prey along with Spinning Pictures and demonstrations by wool spinners, lacemakers and a portrait painter. An array of stalls include village groups, societies and crafts.

A raffle will offer many prizes, including a £150 Selfridges voucher.

There’s also a licensed bar, home-made cakes, barbeque, food hall, Pimms bar and ice cream van. Entry adult £1.50, child and OAP 50p, disabled free.

There’s also a bevy of evening entertainment over the weekend.

On Friday evening (August 12), the ever-popular 1066 Rockitmen will play in the marquee (£10 on the door or £8 in advance – tickets from Mike Stewart on 01424 830443 and Dick Chalwin 01424 830339.

The weekend will close with a fun finale on Saturday (August 13) with a new event - ‘horse racing’ time trials and a skittles alley from 6pm.

Free entry with a small charge for horse and single/double skittle participants. There are prizes for the winners.

There will also be a licensed bar and barbeque at both events.
